MIM technology can be seen in many fields such as aerospace industry, military industry, automobile, electronic products, medical apparatus, consumer goods, etc. The MIM process combines the flexibility of design with the high strength of metal, and has obvious advantages in the manufacture of precision structural parts.
The MIM parts production process is divided into four steps: mixing, forming, degreasing, and sintering, and then surface treatment is determined according to the characteristics of the product.
Surface treatment is a process of artificially forming a surface layer on the surface of the substrate material that is different from the mechanical, physical and chemical properties of the substrate. Its purpose is to meet the requirements of corrosion resistance, wear resistance, decoration or other special functions of the product.
Common surface treatment processes include the following:
First, polishing treatment
Using mechanical, chemical or electrochemical action to reduce the surface roughness of the workpiece to achieve a bright, flat surface.
Second, PVD treatment
PVD is the abbreviation of English Physical Vapor Deposition, which means "physical vapor deposition" in Chinese. It refers to the thin film preparation technology that physically deposits materials on the plated workpiece under vacuum conditions.
Its function is to spray certain particles with special properties (such as high strength, wear resistance, heat dissipation, corrosion resistance, etc.) on the lower-performance matrix, resulting in better performance of the matrix.
Third, electroplating treatment
The use of electrolysis to attach a metal film to the surface of a metal or other material. Electroplating prevents metal oxidation (e.g. rust), improves wear resistance, conductivity, reflectivity, corrosion resistance (copper sulfate, etc.) and enhances aesthetics.
Fourth, blackening treatment
It is a commonly used chemical treatment method to produce an oxide film on the metal surface to isolate the air and achieve the purpose of rust prevention. Blackening can be used when the appearance requirements are not high.
Five, phosphating treatment
Phosphate films are formed by chemical and electrochemical reactions.
The main purpose of phosphating is to:
1) Provide protection to the base metal to prevent the metal from being corroded to a certain extent.
2) It is used as a primer before painting to improve the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the paint film.
Spraying treatment
By means of pressure or centrifugal force, through the spray gun or dish nebulizer, uniform and fine mist droplets are dispersed and applied to the surface of the coated object.
Summarize:
1) Polishing and phosphating are mainly pretreatments to prepare for other post-treatments.
2) Electroplating and PVD are two widely used treatment technologies.
3) Blackening and spraying will cause significant changes to the surface of the product, making it more suitable for large workpieces.
